Now, listen, I know it’s St. Patty’s Day and all that and you wanna dress in green and grope strangers. And you should! But… you should also come see a special night of comedy. “Confessions” is a night where us crazy comedians get together and confess dark and humorous secrets to a crowd of miscreants, fans, drunks, and whatever ne’er-do-wells wander into the club.

Last time I did this show, this was one of my confessions :

Hollywood Improv w/Chris D’elia

ZOMGPEOPLE. I haven’t performed at the Hollywood Improv in quite some time. I’m comin’ back strong this time. Headlining is Chris D’elia (he of “Whitney” fame) and it’s gonna be a helluva show. Thoughts on Louis CK’s Beacon Theatre Special

I fucking loved it. I thought it was his best show yet – because it showed him being more comfortable with concepts instead of bits.

What it reminded me of is Bill Cosby’s “Himself”. Makes me think he recently went back and re-watched that special. And thought “yeah.. I like that vibe. I wanna try that vibe for awhile”. Maybe not literally – but he at least had a similar mindset, that his audience was attentive enough to handle it and he was comfortable enough to explore it. It seems to be no accident that he’s mentioned “Himself” a few times in recent interviews.

When you’re a younger comic, you have to think in 10 minute increments (or less). At the level Louis is at, he does 30+ minutes as a drop-in set at the Improv, and performs 60+ minutes at huge theatres several times a month.

If you took any one of those chunks out of this special and threw it into a standard 8-10 minute act, it would fall flat without context of the person performing it and the material that surrounded it.

I’ve read some early reviews in various forums where people downplayed it in comparison to some of his earlier work, and I can’t help but feel like their criticism is related to “quotables”. That’s my theory for how Dane Cook got so fucking enormous so quick. You could quote every line he spoke. This recent Louis special is about an experience and it’s hard to pick out a line to throw around to your friends. It’s all or nothing — you take it all in as a whole piece, or you miss out entirely.

It’s… (fuck I don’t want to write this) … mature.

I love it when comedians evolve. If they stay along the same course, with the same voice, I feel like they become parodies of themselves and they’re basically hack comics riding the wave of their formerly-respected selves.

We’re watching an artist in their prime right now, riding the wave of success after traveling a very tough and dirty road. It’s pretty awesome.

Sunday Night Confessions @ Neon Venus

It’s my first time doing this show, so I’m not sure what to expect. I love the title, and the location. Also, I’m appearing with some great local comics. This is the Sunday of Turkey Weekend, so when you’re tired of listening to your family hound you about not having enough kids or not being married yet — stop on through and we’ll throw jokes at your face. It’ll be fun!

Comedy Con Carne @ Flappers

Despite the name, this is not an “ethnic” showcase. It’s also not Comedy With Meat, despite the title. It’s run by my good friend Jose Chavez and he’s quite fond of using spanish names for things.

Look – here’s the facts : it’s going to be a killer show, it’s at the wonderful Flappers Comedy Club (Main Room) in Burbank, and I’ll be there with some other amazing comics. That’s what matters. So let’s hang out, get drunk, and crack some dick jokes.

A Stop-gap Redesign for 2011

I just finished redesigning this site, making a few minor changes here and there, speeding up the loading of everything, adding a new search engine, and … basically just giving it a refresh. I plan to redesign it again probably in a few months, but this works better for now than what I was previously working with.

It lacks personality and “flair”, I know. That’s the idea behind the next big redesign – to give it a “Mitcz” feeling. This is just me being professional guy and cleaning out the pipes. It’s easier to see everything at a glance this way without too much eye-mashing or scrolling.

Also, I brought back the “Add A Quote” feature. I missed having it around, so.. it’s back. Please add a quote and don’t be a dick.
